Experiences of Latina/o College Students with Psychiatric Disabilities

Description: This research study explored the experiences of Latina/o college students with mental health disabilities. Specifically, this lecture will discuss the academic and social experiences, the barriers and support services that impact the retention of Latina/o students with psychiatric disabilities in the postsecondary setting and discuss practical applications of the findings. The theoretical frameworks that will be discussed include intersectionality and DisCrit to incorporate a dual analysis of race and ability.
Bio: Dr. Adaly Reyes Martinez has worked in higher education for over ten years. Currently, she is the Director of Accessibility Resources at Pomona College. She holds a PhD in Higher Education from Claremont Graduate University, a Masters in Postsecondary Administration from the University of Southern California and a Bachelors in Psychology from the University of La Verne. Being the first in her family to attend and graduate from college, Dr. Martinez has made it her mission to be a scholar and educator who promotes and celebrates diversity, fosters equity, and promotes social justice in all of her work.

Tuesday & Friday
Coffee and Conversations is a bi-monthly virtual opportunity for disability service providers in the Colorado-Wyoming region to get together to network, chit-chat, and discuss topics relevant to our work.
For the Spring 2024 semester, we will be meeting on the first Tuesday at 1:00 PM and fourth Friday at 9:00 AM of each month. Based on feedback and suggestions, we are accepting volunteers to host the Coffee & Conversations by facilitating conversation and presenting case work. There will be a sign-up sheet to come!
