Affiliates

State and regional AHEAD Affiliates provide disability service professionals with a network of local colleagues and accessible consultation and professional development opportunities.

 While state and local groups of disability service professionals exist without affiliation, AHEAD welcomes the affiliation of professional membership groups that are committed to enhancing higher educational opportunities for student with disabilities. Interested groups can learn more about affiliation by contacting the Board of Directors Affiliate Liaison Maria Schiano (mschiano@ccm.edu) from County College of Morris.

The AHEAD Board of Directors must review changes to either the mission or by-laws of a state or regional Affiliate.

Affiliates and AHEAD jointly sign an affiliate agreement that outlines the responsibilities of each party to the agreement.

  • Access to AHEAD's resources and services, including low cost general liability insurance for the Affiliate organization;
  • One sponsored registration for AHEAD’s annual conference, Equity and Excellence: Access in Higher Education
  • An Affiliate page on the AHEAD website to share member information and promote upcoming activities;
  • An Affiliate online discussion group hosted by AHEAD;
  • AHEAD partnership in developing and promoting regional conferences and workshops to increase attendance and revenue;
  • Use of AHEAD’s name and camera-ready logo for outreach materials;

How to Become an AHEAD Affiliate

It is relatively simple for an existing group of disability service professionals to become affiliated with AHEAD. The organization’s governing body simply completes the brief application and Affiliate agreement form (Word), attaches the group’s mission statement, bylaws, and list of officers and submits the complete package to AHEAD.

There is a  $50 US application fee. After preliminary review by the Board of Directors Affiliate Liaison, the application is presented to the full AHEAD Board for a vote. Affiliate applications are considered during regularly scheduled Board meetings, in the fall, spring and summer.

There is an initial fee of US$50 and an annual renewal fee of US $25, effective 2008
